Areas of Interest / Specialization

Dr. Udu has vast experience in Molecular biology i.e., DNA/ RNA extraction, PCR, QT-NASBA, sequencing, electrophoresis, and cloning technology.Being in the academic field, she has also developed an interest in various public health research e.g., currently working in public health research to determine the prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases and tropical diseases. She has been and is involved in supervising postgraduate students working in various medical-oriented public health research, of which some have graduated successfully.She is currently working in ethnobotany medicinal research investigating novel treatments for protozoan infections. Dr. Udu is heading a scientific group where they are investigating the effect of Nigella sativa as a novel treatment for malaria, which will also be investigated its effect on Leishmania and Trypanosomiasis. The group is investigating the bioactive components, multidrug resistance assays, drug pressure to determine drug chances of drug resistance, combination of different herbs for efficacy assays, etc.,
