Dr. Yusuf is a Senior lecturer and Research scientist in Biochemistry and Molecular biology in the Department of Pure and Applied Sciences at TUM. She has PhD in Molecular medicine from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and, a Masters in Biochemistry from Egerton University. She has vast experience in molecular biology in various techniques i.e., DNA/ RNA extraction, PCR, QT-NASBA, sequencing, electrophoresis, and cloning technology obtained on a fellowship from the University of Glasgow and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). She obtained an undergraduate degree from Egerton University in a Bachelor of Sciences (major in Biochemistry, minor in Zoology/ Botany). Dr. Yusuf has worked as a senior research scientist with Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) for over ten years and has experience in research work in malarial efficacy investigations. She is currently a senior lecturer at Technical University of Mombasa (TUM). She was also in administration as the Chair of a Department (2018) and Dean of the School of Applied and Health Sciences (2018- 2022). She is a member of TUM- Scientific and Ethics Review Committee and Mombasa County Ethics Board. Dr. Yusuf is currently working on an ethnobotany medicinal research in investigating novel treatments for protozoan infections. She has supervised various postgraduate students to graduation and published various papers in the areas of biochemistry, public health, and parasitology.
